SOHH Exclusive: MIMS Denies Taunting 50 Cent, "I Respect His Work, Ambition & Business Methods"

A few places such as RnBHipHopMusic.com picked up on the initial report that Mims had said some negative comments on 50 Cent. The news source was cited as being WENN (World Entertainment News Network). However, we here at the Microsoft MIMS (unofficial) blog site let that sh!t slide like water since we had a feeling that it was a false report.

It was a matter of time before Mims would reach out to the people over at SOHH.com to clear the air.

"I'm currently overseas in Germany, London and France on a promotional tour for the international release of my album Music Is My Savior," MIMS told SOHH. "It has come to my attention that rumors of me making certain statements about 50 Cent are circulating the internet throughout the US. Basically, without getting into details these statements are false..."

MIMS, Music Is My Savior

Alex Macpherson of The Guardian reviews Music Is My Savior.

"Shawn Mims makes the kind of hip-hop that causes purists to wring their hands and complain about how the genre is not what it was. His debut full-length offering is not aimed at those looking for an artist with anything to say. "I can sell a mill sayin' nothin' on a track," he brags, and often it seems as if that is exactly what he is doing. This doesn't matter, though, when he is so adept at producing slick club-bangers: generic, yes, but that is no cause for complaint when the genre is so good. The album is a conveyor belt of minimal 808 beeps and nagging hooks; things only start to drag when Mims tries to get serious. Luckily, that is not often. This Is Why I'm Hot, a song that has taken the US charts by storm this year, is a brilliantly silly novelty; Mims drops a sample of hip-hop from various US locales as he name-checks each area, before launching into an irresistibly dumb chorus: "I'm hot 'cos I'm fly! You ain't 'cos you not!" Elsewhere, there is the usual endearing braggadocio, though presumably no rapper has ever before described themselves as a "very big squirrel" as Mims does on Cop It."

NEW YORK, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Capitol Records RIAA platinum-certified artist MIMS is being honored by

This Is Why Rapper MIMS Likes His Tea Hot

Ever since his club banger “This Is Why I’m Hot” went to No. 1, Sean Mims has lived on the road, touring behind his new album, Music Is My Savior. What does he miss the most about his hometown? First off, the habichuela con dulce that push-cart vendors sell in his native Washington Heights. “It’s one of the best things,” he says. “It’s beans and a sweet milk mixed together with cookies. It’s almost like a thick sweet tea.” He didn’t make it uptown when he was in town this week for a show at Avalon, but over a plate of sautéed jumbo shrimp, string beans, and a hot tea at Keens Steakhouse he told us what else he’s been eating.

Mims: Am I Still Hot?

Quinton Hatfield over at HipHopDX interviews Mims and finds out what's hot!

"Whether you like it or not “This Is Why I’m Hot” was one of the hottest singles to drop in the game lately. Many hip-hop fans that think southern hip-hop is about nothing were very shocked to find the kid behind this song was from New York City. The vibe of the song did seem southern hip-hopish and I’m not saying this is a bad thing. As he claims music is his savior New York rapper Mims is ready to show the game why he’s hot. Representing Manhattan, NY Mims is from a family of Jamaican descent and many don’t know that it was dreams of being a producer that led him into hip-hop. As time went on with producing it was only a matter of time before Mims would find out if he could rhyme.

One thing about Mims though is that he experienced hardships like many emcees who pursue their dreams in hip-hop to better their lives. Losing his mother and father at very young age definitely had to be a blow to this kid's life but through his love for hip-hop, Mims kept at ease to continue his dream. Who says hip-hop doesn’t save lives. Being from New York you know Mims has to have an opinion on the current state of hip-hop in the east coast and he answers to how he felt when many thought he was from down south. With the new album out, Music is My Savior, Mims explains why you should give it a listen before criticizing his music and why at the end of the day he wants to be happy."

MIMS x Microsoft Zune TV Commercial

Zune Marketing does a good job lengthening the ride of Mims' breakout single with a twist by adding a little rock to "This Is Why I'm Hot" with help from Purple Popcorn (Blackout Movement). This is what I would call Purple Popcorn's television debut on this remix to "This Is Why I Rock". Correct me if I'm wrong though. The spot first aired last night and will appear on MTV, VH1, BET, and Adult Swim. You'll see it throughout the NBA Playoffs and Finals as well as on the season finale of Heroes, Grey's Anatomy, The Office, Lost, and Family Guy. Mad more exposure for the Zune as well as your boy MIMS! Thanks to Zune Insider for the heads up on this news!

Mims Album Cover Logo At the Center of Bushido Lawsuit

Chris Richburg over at AllHipHop.com reports on a dispute over the use of the "I" in the MIMS album cover. View the images and you be the judge! Who's swagger jackin who?

"
German fans have to find another place to buy Mims’ hit album Music Is My Savior in light of a new lawsuit filed by popular German rapper Bushido over the artwork on the album cover.

According to reports, the suit stems from a similarity between a silhouette of Bushido from the cover of the rapper’s Deutschland Gib Mir Ein Mic CD/DVD and the "I" in the logo for Mims' name on the cover of Music Is My Savior.

Bushido did not know about the use of the silhouette in the Mims logo and his record label Ersguterjunge (which is a distributed by Universal) are suing Mims and EMI for using the likeness of his image without authorization..."
